Yesterday was tremendous. It was a birthday unlike any other, it was absolutely fantastic.
Admittedly, I was feeling angst leading up to this birthday. In my mind this had always been the number I associated with being an adult. I don’t think I would have felt so antsy about it if it hadn’t been a big year for all my friends. Two of my best friends had babies. Two got engaged. All signs point to adult. 25. Legit, done and done. Weird.
But when the clock struck midnight, I was relieved and then quite unexpectedly, I had an epiphany. And maybe even a sprinkle of forgiveness. As intertwined as my life has been with my four incredible friends, our paths were different. We chose different things and we all love and support each other for it. I chose work, and love what I do. That’s lucky. My 25 years have been well spent.

My southern style party was a sensation. 45 of my closest friends came to celebrate. Great food, great friends and great gifts….one gift in particular I found to be extraordinarily appropriate. A beautiful glass pitcher from Crate and Barrel. My first adult gift and I was giddy about it. It became pitcher clear and clarity poured out of it (I admit that was bad). I was okay getting the gift and okay with what it meant. I was okay becoming an adult. Really okay.
Becoming an adult means becoming a better me. More comfortable with my life, my goals, my dreams, my likes and dislikes. Who wouldn’t want that?
I had known you for quite a while before learning that you weren’t even a quarter of a century old yet. The level of maturity with which you conduct yourself and interact with everyone around you is well beyond your years. Your contagious enthusiasm and energy always impress me. Our world can certainly benefit from more young women like you.
I hope to have a good chat with you over a pitcher of sweet tea some time soon.
